Etymology[edit]

First attested as hunsetti in 722. Etymology unclear. Potentially a compound of either Old Dutch Huni (a personal name), *Huna (Hun) or Proto-Germanic *hun- (brown, dark, honey-yellow) and *sati- (home, homestead) with locative suffix *-ja-. The element Driel is a later addition. Compare Driel, Kerkdriel and Velddriel.
