Etymology[edit]
First attested as ytzinghahusum in the 13th century. Derived from a compound of Old Frisian Idsinga (“a surname”) and the dative plural form of hūs (“house”). The Dutch form of the toponym was borrowed from an earlier variant of the Frisian name.
