Etymology[edit]

Derived from the botanist Carl Linnaeus' surname, New Latin Linnaeus.

Linnaea borealis (twinflower) being a favorite of Linnaeus, his friend and colleague Jan Frederik Gronovius named the genus Linnæa.[1]
