From Primitive Irish ᚂᚒᚌᚒᚇᚓᚉᚉᚐᚄ (lugudeccas), from Proto-Celtic *Lugudeks (one who serves the god Lugus) from *Lugus +‎ *dekos (honor), from Proto-Indo-European *déḱos (that which is proper). Compare Gaulish Lucudeca.
