Etymology[edit]

First attested as Helde Wiers Kamp in 1845, named after Jacob Heldewier (?–1692), a councilman of Heerlen who owned land nearby. The neighbourhood was later renamed after Princess Maria Christina of Orange-Nassau (1947–2019).
