Etymology[edit]
Potentially attested as putzeler in the 15th century, attested with certainty as Het Putselte in 1803-1820. Etymology uncertain. Potentially a compound of Middle Dutch putse (“leather bucket”) or put (“well”) and laar (“intensively cultivated forest”).
