Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Finno-Permic *tamme, further origin unknown, possibly a substrate from the pre-Uralic languages of the Volga. Cognate with Erzya тумо (tumo), Moksha тума (tuma) and Eastern Mari тумо (tumo).
