Proto-Georgian-Zan

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Most likely related to Proto-Georgian-Zan *q̇ua- (handle of an axe (?)).

Reconstruction

[edit]

Čuxua in his earlier work reconstructs Proto-Kartvelian *q̇aw-in-, also deriving Svan ყაბუ̂ (q̇abû, tip) from the same root. The relation of the Svan word is denied in his later works where he reconstructs Proto-Georgian-Zan *q̇win-.

Noun

[edit]

*q̇win-

  1. forehead; temple (clarification of this definition is needed)

Descendants

[edit]
  • Old Georgian: ყჳნი (q̇wini, forehead)
    • Georgian: ყვინია (q̇vinia, with prominent forehead) (Racha)
  • Zan:
