Etymology[edit]

From *čermъxa (hagberry) because of the strong aroma. Also found in dialectal Lithuanian kermùšė (ramson), Proto-West Germanic *hramusō (ramson), Old Irish crem (ramson), Ancient Greek κρόμμῠον (krómmuon), κρόμυον (krómuon, onion), and borrowed from Iranian into Proto-Turkic *sarmïsak (garlic)..
