Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Scythian *xata, from Proto-Iranian *kátah (compare Avestan 𐬐𐬀𐬙𐬀 (kata, room, hut, cellar), Persian کده (kade, house), Middle Persian 𐭪𐭩‎𐭪𐭲 (ktk' /⁠kadag⁠/, house)).
