Etymology

From *müi- +‎ *-kī. Relationship to Proto-Mongolic *mogaï (“snake”) (whence Mongolian могой (mogoj)) is unclear.

Perhaps the forms such as Negidal мӣхи- (mīxi-, “to creep”) and Udihe мики- (miki-, “to creep”) are heavily influenced by this word, or either a cognate; however they both inherited from *mirkü- (“to creep”).
