User:Rua Don't you think that the Proto-Indo-European *(h₁)ōd should have given the Proto-Balto-Slavic *ōˀ > Lithuanian ù? Since Winter's law does not apply before aspirated consonants. Here we see a voiced stop. However, there is no phonation that is like a creaky voice or *ˀ. In doing so, we would get a different reflex in Lithuanian… Proto-Balto-Slavic *ō without phonation gives Lithuanian uõ. Here it is possible to reconstruct only Proto-Balto-Slavic *ā without phonation, which would give Lithuanian õ. And consider it a Balto-Slavic feature. Gnosandes (talk) 21:16, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
- The neuter pronoun *tod > *ta has no evidence of Winter's law either. That suggests that the loss of the consonant preceded Winter's law. —Rua (mew) 22:08, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
- User:Rua Perhaps also by evidence of the ending of the o-stem abl.sg. But the Lithuanian reflex should have been different. I do not support this unsubstantiated hypothesis about Proto-Indo-European *(h₁)ōd. Gnosandes (talk) 22:25, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
