Etymology[edit]
From Middle High German regentropfe, from Old High German regantropfo, from Proto-Germanic *regnadrupô. Equivalent to Reen (“rain”) + Drëps (“drop”). Cognate with German Regentropfen, Dutch regendruppel and regendroppel, English raindrop.
