From Ancient Greek ῥίπτω (rhíptō, “throw”) + γλῶσσα (glôssa, “tongue”).

- (obsolete) A taxonomic infraorder within the order Squamata – a taxon composed solely of the chameleons (family Chamaeleonidae).
Usage notes[edit]
Variously defined as an infraorder, suborder, or superfamily, it continued to be in use until the advent of molecular phylogenies.
