When spending time in the US, I was introduced to at least one Erin whose name was pronounced so similar to "Aaron" that I had to ask to have the name spelled to me. This was back in '97, and even after being familiar with the female name, it still seems to me like a homonym of Aaron. My distinct impression is that a lot of American English speakers drawl at least one of the vowels. This should at least be mentioned as a pronunciation variant.
