- @Lambiam: All of these are attesting être dans les transes, which is indeed mentioned at “transe”, in Trésor de la langue française informatisé [Digitized Treasury of the French Language], 2012. Not an expression I'm familiar with, but maybe it's literary rather than archaic. I note also that the TLFi entry says that transes in the plural means "fear, anxiety" (not a sense I'm familiar with either), so this may be SOP. PUC – 17:38, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
- Funny (in both senses): I must have searched for “étai(en)t dans les transes”, changing the challenged version without noticing it to something that sounded more plausible. I think that the entry is simply misspelled. --Lambiam 18:57, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
- Académie 8 gives "apprehension, dread, fright, fear" as the primary sense and "entranced, mesmerized" as the secondary sense. However, I do think that "être dans des transes" is an idiomatic expression per [7] and French Wiktionary. I've updated transe. Hope this helps. Languageseeker (talk) 02:19, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

- The expression presented at Linternaute.com is être dans les transes. French Wiktionary has the usex dans des transes impossibles à exprimer, in which the postpositive attribute blocks the use of the definite article. --Lambiam 12:41, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
