Length of the iota

[edit]

@JohnC5, ObsequiousNewt The variant spelling Σεμεείν and the transliteration of the Hebrew etymon (shimʿī) suggest to me that the final iota in Σεμεΐ would be long; however, the pronunciation given in the entry is {{grc-IPA|w=Σεμεΐ˘}}. What is the basis for adjudging the iota short, may I ask? — I.S.M.E.T.A. 16:57, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

@I'm so meta even this acronym Hmm, I'm not sure how I came to that conclusion. Perhaps some non-plenilunary lunacy? Should probably be long. —JohnC5 20:46, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
@JohnC5: Well, I don't know; it was just my hunch. Maybe there isn't enough evidence for it either way… — I.S.M.E.T.A. 19:38, 27 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
