«истребитель» in the sense of warship

I have removed the "(nautical) destroyer (warship)" definition from the article. As far as I can tell, the word «истребитель» has been used in a nautical sense only in the context of historical works about the Royal Navy when providing a literal, word-for-word translation of the 19th century English term "torpedo boat destroyer" for Russian readers who don't know English; but it's used there as a generic descriptive term, just like when "tank destroyer" is translated as «истребитель танков». And the first definition in our article ("destroyer, exterminator") is IMHO sufficient to cover this usage.

The actual Russian term for the warship that in English is called "destroyer" (and in the 19th century was briefly known as "torpedo boat destroyer") is and always has been «эскадренный миноносец», often abbreviated to «эсминец».

If you believe this analysis is incorrect and wish to re-add "(nautical) destroyer (warship)", please provide a reference. Tetromino (talk) 19:26, 8 October 2016 (UTC)
