Tool noun from a root[edit]

Hi, I wonder whether it's correct to state that a tool noun has been derived form a root. Are ther any other examples? Thanks in advance. Backinstadiums (talk) 20:15, 23 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

It's never really correct to say that anything has been derived from a root. Words are derived from other words; the root is just the mechanism of derivation. But inasmuch as this expression is in common use: yes, of course. For example, مِفْتاح (miftāḥ) is a tool noun from the root ف ت ح (f-t-ḥ).
