Why is there a dot appearing between letters in "ćho.rnā"? 131.123.1.227 23:05, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
- It’s just a convenient way of indicating a retroflex r. It should be an ɽ, but this symbol is more difficult to type, so some editors put a dot in front. —Stephen 23:12, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

- Yes, although ɽ is not with an underdot. Most people don’t have Arial Unicode MS and it is not included on standard keyboards. The difficulty is not with seeing it, it’s with typing it. —Stephen 09:18, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, could it be added in the drop-down box below the edit window? I think probably editors who use foreign language scripts a lot eventually find Arial Unicode MS, due to necessity (as I did) a couple of years ago. 24.29.228.33 21:53, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, it could be added, but it increases the download size and time of all pages for all users, including those with slow machines and small memories, and an editor still might not be aware of it or use it. So ".r" is something that subsequent editors can change to "ɽ", but just be aware that some editors do use this device as a shortcut for such symbols that are hard to type. —Stephen 14:38, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
