Google results on spelling variations[edit]

English v Persian[edit]

  • All English-derived spellings: 998,000
  • All Persian-derived spellings: 2,130

Candra-o usage[edit]

  • With-candra spellings: 141,000
  • No-candra spellings: 12,300

Nukta usage[edit]

  • Non-nukta spellings: 966,000
  • With-nukta spellings: 185,000

Conclusions[edit]

  • What is official or correct and what is in common usage do not always align.
  • The English words in any spelling though regarded as colloquial are close to 3 orders of magnitude more common than the more official Persian word in any spelling.
  • The nukta spellings of both the English and Persian words are far less common than non-nukta spellings, even though nukta is official.
  • Candra vowels are not officially sanctioned according to multiple sources I've read yet for at least this word candra-o spellings are an order of magnitude more common than non-candra-o spellings.
  • While English-derivation and candra-usage are both orders of magnitude more popular than their alternatives, nukta usage is more divided with only about a 5:1 ratio in favour of not using nukta.

Notes[edit]

Using Google we can only count hits, we cannot analyse the reasons why various spellings are used. In particular it may be possible that people would prefer to use nukta or candra spellings but that keyboards, fonts, or input methods do not universally support them or might be difficult to use.
