Etymology

@Inqilābī I've a double on the etymology. Gokṣīra would shift to *gükhir, similar to गोशाला (gośālā) > গোহালি (gühali) or गोरूप (gorūpa) > গৰু (goru). The go shifted to gü or go/gö. To get ga as in gakhir, गावी (gāvī) looks like a better etymology. gāvī + kṣīra > gāī + khīra > *gāikhira > gākhir. Both words exist in Assamese, gai "cow" and khira- "to milk", khiroti "cow that's giving milk". Odia has khiro for milk. Compare the term for milk in the neighbouring Bodo language which is gaikher. It preserves the "i". Bodo has a lot of Assamese and Kamtapuri loanwords. In Assamese the diphthong "আই/ai" shifted to "আ/a" since 17th or 18th century before consonants other than s (khaila > khala, khaiba > khaba, khaicha > khaisa).
