Dragon[edit]

Is the Tibetan dragon similar to the Chinese dragon? 71.66.97.228 04:45, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cognates?[edit]

Are there cognates to this in other Sino-Tibetan (or Asian) languages? 71.66.97.228 04:45, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Tibetan 'brug meant 1) thunder, 2) dragon. It is thus cognate with Chinese (bìng, OC *brɯŋs, "sound of thunder", graphically: three stacked in a fashion). Chinese also has 霹靂 (pīlì, OC *pʰeːg reːg < **pʰreːg, "a loud thunder sound"). Compare Korean 벼락 (pyelak, "thunder", considered a native word). Hbrug 07:38, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
