Gimirri is accurately transcribed as გიმირრი, however, contemporary Georgian very rarely displays repeated letters - it is almost always spelled as it sounds - hence the contracted გმირი. "Gimirri" was a loan-word that antedates even the Georgian monumental script Mrgvlovani. It is a change similar to the transformation of the Hokkien word "seng-lí" into the Tagalog "sangley": "trader" becomes "Chinese"; "Cimmerian" becomes "hero".
The locals of Cavite in the Philippines, still, give the apocryphal explaination of the Chinese traders' initial landfall in the leeward side of that hook of land and responding to the natives' question of "Who are you?" with what they were.18.104.22.168 03:06, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
