@PhanAnh123 Hello. I was basing myself on Shorto's Mon-Khmer dictionary. He does mention that the vietnamese derivation seems irregular though. The meaning "carry on the shoulders" seems a strong argument. He relates mắc to a totally different root. Anyway, it was just to cite my sources. Do you mind if I keep my list of meanings though? You can add the list of meanings back, I just deleted in case they are related to the meanings of vác. Shorto (2006) contained a number of misassigned words (partially due to the lack of resources on Shorto's end, the work was published in 2006 but it was written long before that), for example, he placed lên in a ghost etymology, while it belongs much more comfortably to another set that he reconstructed. In the case of mắc, it's the perfect match of the Khmer word, with absolutely no irregularity in sound correspondences. Vác has a long vowel, which is very hard to reconcile with that of Khmer.PhanAnh123 (talk) 14:57, 11 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
