"Nonintegral"[edit]

@Wyang, I think what @Huhu9001 meant was that the decimal is not an integer. Decimals could include integers, but 小數 can't. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 13:34, 3 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

But 小數 is just the decimal notation for numbers, and is applicable to integers too (e.g. 12.00), no? Wyang (talk) 13:39, 3 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Wyang I've always had the impression that it doesn't refer to numbers in decimal notation, but the part after the decimal point (but that may be because I haven't had much math education in Chinese). See 小數 (xiǎoshù). — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 13:41, 3 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung I think this is confusing two subtly different senses of this word. 小數 is the name for the whole notation. The part before the decimal point is 小數的整數部分, and the part after is 小數的小數部分.
現代漢語規範詞典(小數):"十进分数的一种特殊表现形式。如“1.25”这个数中间的“.”符号叫小数点,小数点左边的数是这个数的整数部分,右边的数是这个数的小数部分。" Wyang (talk) 13:49, 3 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
