I can't speak for Chinese and Japanese, but in Korean there is no meaningful distinction between and ~. In fact, in the texts I work with, the half-width tilde is much more frequently used to indicate a range of numbers, probably because it can be generated directly from a standard keyboard. -- Visviva 15:46, 6 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

From my Japanese and Chinese keyboards, only seems to be possible. I would have to switch to an English keyboard to be able to type ~. —Stephen 17:25, 6 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
