Hittite cuneiforms

Hello!

On this page, NINDA is written with the cuneiform of '𒃻'. But the same NINDA can be found under the List of cuneiform signs as '𒉒' (U+12252). How is this possible? How can one and the same word (here 'bread') be written so differently? Perhaps, there are different spellings of the same word in different epochs of Hittite history.

By the way: I am searching for the first deciphered sentence in cuneiform in UTF. Do you know any place where I can find it? MüjdeA (talk) 10:37, 24 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi! 𒃻 and 𒉒 are two different signs. They are both pronounced /ninda/, but their transliteration is different. The first (𒃻) is just "NINDA" (with no accents or no index numbers), and it means "bread". The second (𒉒) is either "NÍNDA" (with acute accent) or "NINDA₂" (with a subscript 2). I don't know Hittite much, but in both Akkadian and Sumerian, those were completely different words and were not used interchangeably, so I suspect it was the same for Hittite. — Sartma ^{【𒁾𒁉 ● 𒊭 𒌑𒊑𒀉𒁲】} 09:35, 26 May 2023 (UTC)
