Regarding that usage note[edit]

I am a 46yrold American who has been online since the 90s and I did not know until today that captcha was an acronym. I'd always assumed it was an early-internet brandname rendered generic. So I really doubt that this usage note is correct. Thmazing (talk) 20:36, 25 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted. All it really says is "this may also be spelled in lower case", and that's what the Alternative Forms section is for. Equinox 20:39, 25 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

According to Google's ngram, allcaps is about eight times more common than lowercase, but the numbers are small enough, I'm not convinced that's meaningful. Thmazing (talk) 20:39, 25 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Reminds me of when Hormel (the company that makes SPAM tinned meat) decided that they wouldn't cause legal fuss over the use of "spam" for junk e-mail, as long as it wasn't written in all caps (which basically nobody did anyway). Equinox 20:43, 25 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
