Reconsructed?

[edit]

In what sense is this reconstructed? The word is apparently attested on an inscription.

What I did find was that some sources treat this as a Celtic name instead of Vasconic, so maybe that's the issue? 98.170.164.88 10:59, 11 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Ah, the inscription is in Latin, so it would technically be a Latin name borrowed from an otherwise unattested Vasconic name (or Celtic, potentially). Still not sure why this reconstruction is in mainspace and not the Reconstruction namespace though. 98.170.164.88 18:55, 11 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
I'm a bit late to the discussion, but the presence of the reconstructed template was due to me forgetting to remove it and not any other reasons. Aquitanian is attested in the form of given names which often contain elements that can be identified as Basque. However, the Aquitanian entries in Wiktionary are mostly reconstructions of the aforementioned elements (often just copy-pasted from the Proto-Basque entries). Since they have a generally poor quality, I've cleaned up some by adding quotations and moving them to the mainspace, but in this case I forgot to remove the reconstruction template.--Santi2222 (talk) 11:14, 3 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
