I think that word should have an "a" at the end and there is already an entry in Wiktionary. Dbfirs 23:20, 13 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

No, this is a German word. It has an "e" at the end. —Stephen 00:06, 14 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, Stephen, and thanks. I must have been half asleep! Dbfirs

RfD discussion.[edit]

Someone created this German page just today I believe, but it has been deleted and protected. It was properly formatted and it’s definitely a word in German. It appears as a translation in hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia and it has a page at de:Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobie. There are over 7000 Google hits, including the German Wikipedia, where it says, "Ebenfalls bekannt ist eine Krankheit namens Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobie, die die krankhafte Angst vor langen Wörten bezeichnen soll." I don’t know what it was deleted, but it seems to have been a valid entry. —Stephen 19:07, 13 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

This has been a specific vandalism target for a while now. When I saw the too-familiar term on recent changes entered by an anon, I clicked (diff), [rollback], [delete], without so much as a glance at the contents. Seeing the previous deletions, I locked it.
Do we have any references other than de.wiki for the term? Is it attested, or is it another hoax entry from de? Do you want me to restore that and plop it onto RFV instead? --Connel MacKenzie 20:11, 13 December 2006 (UTC) (linked) 20:13, 13 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
The German Wiktionary list a couple in references, including http://wortschatz.uni-leipzig.de/cgi-bin/wort_www?site=1&sprache=de&x=0&y=0&cs=1&Wort=Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobie. Of course, all the references are going to be in German. German-speakers do not experience this phobia, so the word is only for their amusement, but it does exist. Since it’s found in the German Wikipedia as well as the German Wiktionary, I think it deserves a place here. —Stephen 20:38, 13 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I restored only the last version of it. Hope that's OK. Not sure what to do about citations though. --Connel MacKenzie 22:32, 13 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
