There a number of sources that claim "Manitoba" may mean "the god that speaks". Officially, that was the translation given. For example:

...and an awful lot of other hits. I'm not an expert, but shouldn't this be included on the page? Even if it's actually wrong, shouldn't there be a note about it? Curly Turkey 06:53, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
