Etymology[edit]
It has been suggested in the book of the History of English Place Names that this river name, SOAR, with its pre-historic cognate SAAR in Germany, is of Neolithic origin: Compare Basque SARE (net); since part of Basque has been alleged to be akin to one of the Neolithic dialects of Britain.
