When I was a child in the 1930s, my father said extra hot days were "blingers". . That name had to do with the screeching noise the "tree-toads" made.

Presently, in the dragon boat community, the term "bling" refers to winning medals as opposed to ribbons or a hand shake; "We're in the ribbon round, missing the bling final be a second."64.251.87.130 16:59, 14 May 2010 (UTC)3CReply
