I can find LOTS of mentions, but so far, only one use, which is on the citations page. Kiwima (talk) 23:10, 28 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
The dictionaries generally specify "old English law" or something to that effect which would make this Middle French rather than English. A French journal article I found mentions that it was specifically in use in the 14th–15th centuries. However the definition, although given in a few English references, does not seem to be right; from what I can see "brennage" was the feudal tenure based on paying bran as a substitute for other duties, rather than other duties as a substitute for bran.
