Strange formatting in quote, etc.[edit]

Why is the 1858 quote formatted so strangely?

And did they really misspell committee (as comittee) (for instance, there is not an entry for comittee here)?

It seems to have been written in an old shorthand, where they sometimes used superscript to abbreviate common words. If you click the link you can see it is spelled "comittee", which might be either an error or an obsolete form. Equinox 17:34, 16 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
