Sense: synonym of get one's wires crossed (= "to get confused or mixed up about another person's intentions; to misunderstand one another"). I can't find this particular phrase used this way: it would need to be something like "we crossed the wires and failed to understand one another". All I find is the other sense (a news story breaking) or literal crossing of electrical wires. Equinox 15:55, 13 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

I could only find one possible quote:
2009, Mark Moogalian, Mr. Farride, page 6:
This produced sensory overlap that crossed the wires between sight, sound and touch, triggering a perceptual avalanche throughout his being.
but I am inclined to wonder whether the person who added this didn't mean cross wires. Kiwima (talk) 21:26, 13 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
That quotation doesn't seem to fit the definition of getting confused about someone's intentions or to misunderstand, though it does suggest some kind of confusion or conflation. Equinox 15:05, 14 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
