Pronounciation

I'd like to discuss pronounciation a little more, it's probably easier and more appropriate here. On my talk page, EncycloPetey wrote:

Not according to Cambridge, which includes both UK and US pronuciations. Do they really have /ʒ/ (like the sound of "z" in azure?). I've only ever heard it in the US with /s/ or /z/. --EncycloPetey 21:02, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Dictionary.com's entry is /ɪˈkli ʒi ə, -zi ə/ (cut, pasted & checked). American Heritage doesn't use IPA, but suggests either "zh" or "z" sounds, which I think amounts to the same thing. I would assume these dictionaries would put the US pronounciation first? In any case, your change fits with my experience too so I'm happy to leave it per Cambridge. --Rogerb67 22:07, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Possible connection to caeruleus and excelsius

Since Old Latin admitted to spontaneous transition of R to S, there may be a connection to Latin caeruleus (sky blue), gloria (a bright blue light), and excelsius (involving a transposition of sorts). 216.99.198.16 21:05, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
