I am currently reading Lazarillo de Tormes and have noticed that feminine nouns are frequently referred to with the word "ella". Not knowing whether this was ever a widespread phenomenon, or simply a peculiarity pertaining to the author in question, I hope another Wiktionarian will be able to shed light on the matter.

Italian recording[edit]

Please note that in Italian, élla is to be pronounced with a closed "e". See http://dizionari.corriere.it/dizionario_italiano/E/ella.shtml --M7 (talk) 14:50, 24 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
