It's an official position, different from backup goalie, which is the roster's secondary goalie. The emergency goalie is a non-roster position. It's also different from call-ups from affiliated lesser/minor leagues, that are used as injury replacements in a different manner. The backup goalie, who is not an emergency goalie, is used when the primary goalie needs to be relieved in an emergency, so "emergency"+"goalie" doesn't define that situation. Similarly, a minor league call up is used as an injury replacement for one of the on roster goalies, where the injury can be thought of as an emergency isn't this "emergency goalie" either. That call up is an on-roster goalie when they start serving and travels with the team, unlike the "emergency goalie" defined here. -- 70.51.203.56 18:27, 2 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
