"Hope" is "espoir" in french without an ending "-e" — This unsigned comment was added by Jcwf (talk • contribs) at 15 November 2009.
- Correct, any reason not to speedy delete this? Mglovesfun (talk) 14:11, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
- In a word yes. Seems to be easily attestable as an archaic spelling. Google Books gets 325 hits for this (French only). Mglovesfun (talk) 14:21, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
- Well it seems to be more attestable in Middle and Old French. The only mentions I can find in post 1600 texts (the date fr.wikt gives for the start of the Modern French period) seems to be analysis of older literature. So I've changed it to rfv-sense and added one citation. The Old French is mentioned in Cligés by Chrétien de Troyes so that should definitely be kept (see w:Chrétien de Troyes). - Modern French fails, but Middle and Old French remain. Mglovesfun (talk) 21:02, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

It is an obsolete verbal form of espérer ("to hope") in fro and frm. — Actarus (Prince d'Euphor) 13:15, 21 October 2012 (UTC)
The verb espérer was conjugated as follows (in fro and frm) :
- j'espoir, tu espoires, il/elle espoire, nous esperons, vous esperez, ils/elles espoirent
While in modern French, this gives : j'espère, tu espères, il/elle espère, nous espérons, vous espérez, ils/elles espèrent. — Actarus (Prince d'Euphor) 13:18, 21 October 2012 (UTC)
