Maybe so but these various pants expressions are widely used in the US, and variant expressions like "you'll cream your jeans" exist which clear up any potential ambiguity. Since our underwear is inside our trousers, it's still correct either way, and pants being a one-syllable word (and having an interesting sound) makes it convenient.
