It was not called Fire Water because of the "high potency" of alcohol that created a 'BURN', it was the opposite. They called it Firewater because the Native people tested it first. They would pour it over a camp fire to see if it "flared-up"...if it did, it was "Good quality stuff". If not, they knew it was of poor quality...not much 'real' alcohol in it. I know the stories of my culture. I am a member of the Piikani Nation in Southern Alberta. We are part of the Blackfoot Confederacy.
