Archaic / obsolete ?[edit]

I’ve marked this as “archaic” – I believe that I recognized it on first sight, and it was apparently used reasonably widely through the 1930s (1960s?), though I’ve asked a few people and no-one recognizes it at all. Doesn’t seem common in the United States at least.
