@Rua, Victar Some lexicographers suppose this word existed in Middle Dutch, but this is actually attested at quite a late date. [1] How likely do you think it is that the word really existed back then? ←₰-→ Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 14:07, 24 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

If the word originates from Twente and Drenthe, then it would have been Middle Low German and not Middle Dutch. Sources don't always strictly distinguish two, and some people think anything in the Netherlands must have been Middle Dutch. —Rua (mew) 17:45, 24 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Rua Oh yeah, my bad, not sure why I missed that as it should have been obvious. To those sources' defence, there is a rare 'western' form hovezate, but I don't know whether that originates from Low German or Dutch (Middle Low German hōvesâte is apparently attested). Anyway, there's a gap of almost three centuries between our end date for Middle Dutch and the first date for hovezate. ←₰-→ Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 18:31, 24 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
