EN: "urgent"?[edit]

Is urgent necessarily the intention in the quotation, "Circumstances of an imperious nature, which it is unnecessary to relate here, had prevented him from taking service with that gallant army which had fought the disastrous campaigns ending with the fall of Corinth."?

I would have felt that the etymology would have suggested a meaning of commandinghigh-priority / utmost priority. Is there any other support for the meaning urgent? —DIV (1.145.39.230 11:50, 16 September 2023 (UTC))[reply]
