Less correct?[edit]

Is there any reasoning for why it is stated that the spelling "intelligo" is less correct? Joseph Yanchar (talk) 16:52, 26 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Probably because L&S says so and some more modern dictionaries (Georges) don't even have it. -80.133.102.196 17:50, 30 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Etymology of Lat. intellego[edit]

The etymology given for Latin intellego is mistaken. All -lego-compounds (neg-, di-, intel-) with -x- in the perfect stem derive from Ie. h2leg- 'care for' (LIV s.v., p.247: 'sich kümmern um', cognate to Greek ἀλέγω), not from leģ- 'collect'.
