Why should my Spanish translations for "jacket", meaning piece of a men suit, be checked? What's wrong? Thanks in advance for your answer (to whom it may concern). Andresalvarez 13:53, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Because the translations hadn't been broken up by senses in separate tables at the time, so they all have to go to ttbc, until someone can put them in the correct tables. Yes, it is annoying, but the person creating the tables doesn't know all the languages (they might know a few ;-). Robert Ullmann 14:00, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

And yes, I know you put sense numbers in, but that's why we use the separate tables with glosses now: the sense numbers were found to be very unreliable. Appalachian definition - sense 8

What’s the difference between senses 2 and 8? Is sense 8 using American English when it says that ‘jacket’ means ‘vest’ or British? The sense of ‘waistcoat’ is arguably covered in sense 2 as a waistcoat is a sleeveless jacket, though the definition does say ‘besides a waistcoat’, so does this mean that Appalachians use the word ‘jacket’ to refer to what most other Americans would call an ‘vest’? It seems unlikely it would refer to an ‘undershirt’.Overlordnat1 (talk) 12:49, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
