Dated as adverb?[edit]

Not sure the single word 'dated' adequately sums up the current usage of 'jolly' as an adverb. First, it's still used humorously to indicate a stereotypical British accent as in "Jolly good show, old chap!" I've also heard it used in a non-humorous way by Youtubers, so perhaps it's still current for some regional accents. A more expert opinion is needed, and anyway I don't know how to fit "dated and/or humorous and/or regional in the template. --RDBury (talk) 22:59, 24 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

When it's used humorously, doesn't the humour arise from the fact that it is dated but being used without comment in contemporary English? Equinox 10:32, 25 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
I think when it's used humorously it would usually be intended for an North American audience who wouldn't necessarily know it's dated. But maybe I'm misinterpreting it. --RDBury (talk) 07:02, 26 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
