History[edit]

Thought I'd find more here. Term was in use in central Florida in late 1980's-- "Jonesin' for a cigarette." Cheeers, Dlohcierekim 00:00, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't anyone think this expression derived from the expression "Keep up with the Joneses?" That seems logical enough, that's a very old, British expression, with an implied covetousness. —This unsigned comment was added by 98.246.96.153 (talkcontribs).

That's the explanation I heard first, but I prefer the theory that it derived from the use of Harry Jones to mean heroin (a la Mary Jane for marijuana). I haven't found any confirmation for either idea beyond internet discussions, or I'd add them. -Avenue (talk) 00:25, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
